Reconciliation

Our vision for reconciliation

True Relationships and Reproductive Health’s vision for reconciliation is an Australian society which upholds Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s perspectives and unique place in Australian history and social fabric through respectful relationships in all of their diversity, and which creates opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to have equality of access to sexual and reproductive health, and to safe and respectful relationships.

In the achievement of this vision, our role is to support the delivery of quality services to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and engage in the development of culturally appropriate policies and practices which reflect the needs and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

We explicitly recognise the importance of partnerships with communities and community controlled organisations to achieve this vision. True aims to eliminate obstacles that prevent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from enjoying positive sexual and reproductive health outcomes and safe and respectful relationships.

In Reconciliation Week 2021

MORE THAN A WORD. RECONCILIATION TAKES ACTION

Reconciliation Australia’s theme for 2021, More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action.

Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and futures. 2021 marks twenty years of Reconciliation Australia and almost three decades of Australia’s formal reconciliation process.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2021 (NRW) - "More Than a Word" - involves 20 actions for reconciliation in 2021. We need more people speaking up, asking the hard questions and taking action.. a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Throughout this significant week, True shared and celebrated how we as an organisation, participated in the 20 actions for reconciliation. Getting involved in NRW2021 is one of the 20 actions.
